Bagamat ginagamit natin ito sa pang-araw-araw na pamumuhay at pakikipagtalastasan, maraming Pilipino pa rin ang hindi maalam sa wastong paggamit nito.
Ang Pilipinas, bukod sa pagiging kilala sa iba’t-ibang larangan tulad ng palakasan, panitikan at musika, ay isa sa rin sa mga bansang nagpapakita ng pagka-giliw sa sining sa pamamagitan ng pagsayaw. Ngunit sa paglipas ng panahon, kasama na rin ng pagsakop ng mga banyaga, umusbong ang iba’t ibang uri ng sayaw na salungat sa ating nakasanayan.
