A low-pressure area (LPA) currently being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is expected to bring rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and the northern part of Mindanao on Monday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Daniel Villamil.
The LPA was estimated at 365 kilometers east of Maasin City, Southern Leyte at 3:00 AM, but there is a low chance to form a tropical depression within the next 24 hours but the rain will continue.
“Because of the low-pressure area, we will experience scattered rains and thunderstorms in the Bicol region and Quezon. Because of the southwest monsoon, Occidental Mindoro will see overcast skies,” Villamil said.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy from morning to afternoon on Tuesday, Aug. 26, and Wednesday, Aug. 27, but rains may occur from late afternoon to evening due to thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, because of the LPA, Visayas, Caraga and Northern Mindanao are forecast to experience rainy weather on Aug. 26–27, with conditions possibly extending into Aug. 28.
Palawan and Zamboanga Peninsula may experience rains due to southwest monsoon from Aug. 27–28, and the rest of Mindanao will have a fair weather but expect rains in the late afternoon to evening.
PAGASA cautioned that rainfall may be heavier to mountainous and elevated areas from Aug. 26 to Aug. 28 Flooding and landslides could worsen in provinces that experienced heavy rainfall in the past days.
As of posting, LGUs have not confirmed widespread suspension of classes or government work, though local government units may issue announcements based on localized conditions.
