Like the extreme heat index, the climax of this year’s Letramurals is also intense as it featured championship bouts in volleyball and basketball, along with fun games and street dance on Friday at the campus grounds.
Basketball
The College of Business Administration and Accountancy 1 stunned the College of Business Administration and Accountancy 2, 96-89, in the finals game and ultimately took home back-to-back crowns. The journey to two-peat, however, was not as easy as it sounds, as the former needed an extra period to escape the latter.
In the opening, CBAA 1’s Aldwin Cruz asserted his dominance on the court, stretching the lead to seven, 16-9. Yet, the likes of Charles Evans III and Jaycobe Ingreso of CBAA 2 worked their way up to snatch the upper hand, coming into halftime.
Evans and Ingreso were eventually backstopped by Marco Navarra and captain Zhyber Eneria until early in the fourth canto before the luck shifted to CBAA 1‘ side as the MVP Aldwin Cruz and Randelbert Pangilinan erupted with a combined 25 points solely on the fourth to tie the game at 82 all. Coming into the overtime, Ingreso responded for the CBAA 2, but the eventual MVP remained unstoppable in transition.
At the conclusion of the campus tourney, CBAA 1’s Pangilinan was named as one of the Mythical 5. Joining him are Evans and Navarra of CBAA 2, Orlando Gomez of CLAS and CEIT’s Gabriel Paul.
Mixed Volleyball
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences exacted their revenge from their first encounter with the College of Engineering and Information Technology, but this time, at the championship stage. The former sealed the highest feat after taking down the latter in a three-set decision, 25-17, 25-17, 25-23.
CLAS, who donned a blue uniform, displayed their scoring efficiency and strong net defense in the likes of Benedict Yangco, MVP Mark Joseph Siguenza, Cia Cassandra Miñon, and Paula Hundangan, who are both part of the Mythical 6.
Following two frames with identical set scores, CEIT attempted to prolong the match by capturing a two-point lead in the third, 21-19, but with Yangco and Paul Volante in the front row, the advantage was flipped, forcing the former to fall behind them.
Likewise completing the Mythical 6 are John Matthew Dejos and Ranzheskha Dubouzet from CEIT, and Gabriel Tan of CBAA 1.
Fun Games
CEIT outwitted the competition to grip another championship title on their card. Just behind them was the CLAS who finished first and CBAA 1 who stood second.
Street dance
CEIT once again demonstrated superiority in the street dancing competition, taking in not only the crown but also the Best in Props and Costumes and Best in Choreography special awards.
Overall Champions
CEIT successfully emerged as the overall winner, extending their streak to five in the annual event.
