Men’s Division
The Letran Knights outgunned the JRU Heavy Bombers, 25-20, 25-19, 25-19, enroute to their second win of the season at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City earlier today.
Vince Himzon delivered a game-high 18 points with three blocks, backed by Steven Sta. Maria and John Paolo Lorenzo who individually contributed 14 markers.
The Knights were ahead by two sets through the offensive barrage of Himzon, Sta. Maria, and Lorenzo and the stifling blocks of Namron Caballero. The Heavy Bombers began to settle into their own and found holes in Letran’s defense at the start of the third frame.
Unfortunately for the fourth set seeking JRU, Himzon was not finished with his downpour, raining down seven points to regain the advantage for his squad.
With the game all but over, Coach Larry Sioco Jr.’s troops went on one last rally, which was quickly extinguished by Lorenzo’s cross court attack that sealed the victory, 25-19.
JRU Heavy Bombers’ Kenneth Daynata dropped 13 points with three excellent digs, followed by Matthew Miguel with 11 points.
Women’s Division
The Letran Lady Knights pummeled the JRU Lady Bombers, 25-16, 25-19, 25-19, to remain perfect in their first four matches.
Judiel Nitura spearheaded the Lady Knights with 16 points and four excellent digs, followed by Gia Maquilang who tallied 15 points on 14 spikes.
Letran’s two headed scoring threat took turns soaring past JRU’s defense, bombing them with spikes in different areas of the floor.
On the contrary, Coach Oliver Almadro’s squad prevented the Heavy Bombers from creating any sort of momentum, which stagnated their offense.
At the helm of the defense was libero Lara Mae Silva who was responsible for 28 excellent digs, while Angelique Ledesma and Royce Dela Cruz stood as brick walls with two rejections, respectively.
Karyla Rafaela Jasareno of the Lady Bombers accumulated eight points, along with Patricia Anne Del Pilar with six points.
Letran’s volleyball teams will seek to add another mark to the win column as they clash against the College of Saint Benilde this coming Sunday, April 21.
