The Colegio posted a 70.59-percent passing rate, with 12 Letranites making the cut out of
17 examinees, in the November 2018 licensure examinations for civil engineers.
This year’s passing rate was lower than last year’s 72.73 percent, or 8 out of 11 takers
passing the test. The test was divided into three parts: Mathematics, Surveying and
Transportation Engineering, Hydraulics and Geotechnical Engineering, and Structural
Engineering and Construction.
In an interview with The LANCE, three of the 12 newly registered civil engineers who
barged into this year’s examinations shared their experiences.
“First thing that came into my mind is sulit ‘yung limang taon kong paghihirap sa pag
aaral,” said first-time taker Jhon Colesio.
He then noted that self-preparation and time management were his “formula” during the
five-month preparation for the test. “Lagi ko sinasabi sa sarili ko na kinaya nila, kaya
kakayanin ko rin,” he added.
Meanwhile, AJ Manalastas expressed his gratitude through acknowledging his former
professor’s words of encouragement, saying, “I thank Ma’am Sanchez for inspiring us na
mag-study wisely and not hardly. We are very motivated to pass the exam, [because] we
want to show that Letran can compete.”
“Being one of the board passers of the licensure exam--the hardest examination siguro na
nakita namin, I feel proud,” he bared.
For Jermaine Gayao, his parents were his motivation to ace the test. “Sa araw araw na
nakikita ko yung pamilya ko na nagtatrabaho para sakin namomotivate talaga “ko [na]
ipasa yung boards, at syempre pangarap ko ‘to eh kaya ginawa ko talaga lahat para
makuha ko,” he shared.
The University of the Philippines-Los Baños was the sole top-performing school after
recording a 98.63-percent passing rate. Meanwhile, the national passing rate dropped to
45.09 percent from last year’s 48.81 percent.
The Civil Engineering Licensure Examination was held last November 10 to 11 and was
organized by the members of the Board of Civil Engineering led by Engr. Praxedes P.
Bernardo, Engr. Pericles P. Dakay, and Engr. Romeo A. Estañero.
