Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU) granted Letran’s BS Accountancy a level I status after they visit the Colegio to evaluate its academic capabilities last December.
Last April, PAASCU provided the accountancy department a big leap towards accreditation, making it more suitable to be taken as a program and improving its credibility in teaching students with BS Accountancy curriculum.
Letran’s College of Business Admininistration and Accountancy is well-known program of the Colegio for it produced alumni who excelled in the field of business. One of them is the famous Filipino businessman Enrique Zobel de Ayala.
BS Accountancy Program Coordinator Ian Dancel of the accountancy department confirmed the said accreditation. “The status was given to us because of the increasing passing rate every year,” he said.
Dancel also mentioned that their department began offering the bridging program which gives chance to those who are debarred from accountancy to have their BS Accountancy degree here in Letran, paving the way to gain the status.
He also added that having an accredited status is highly beneficial for both current students and future enrollees as some employers tend to ask for the status accreditation of the degree that they had in the college or university they have been to, and that should bolster the chances of being employed. On the other hand, parents should also consider the accreditation status of the program to ensure that their children are getting the high quality of education.
The level I status of the Colegio’s BS Accountancy is effective for 3-5 years. In the succeeding years, the program shall then again move forward and apply for the next status.
As of this writing, Letran has 8 accredited programs, some of which are already at the third level status including business administration, liberal arts, sciences, and secondary education programs.
PAASCU is an organization that aims to give authorization to academic programs which meet their standards.
In November 1967, the Bureau of Education and Culture (now the Department of Education) acknowledged PAASCU and endorsed its work as an accrediting agency. PAASCU is authorized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to certify the levels of accredited programs for the purpose of granting progressive deregulation and other benefits.
