Last March, the 19th National Student Convention of Electrical Engineering Students (NSCON), a three-day event of activities for electrical engineering students from various schools in the country, was held inside the campus of Letran.
On the first day of the event, a talk concerning the Technical and Non-Technical students was conducted at the SC Auditorium.
For the second day, the ‘Skills Olympics’ activity took place. ‘Skills Olympics’ was a hands-on competition that requires building wiring and motor control.
The participants were given a problem and a schematic diagram to be applied to an actual output, this shall test their skills in proper wiring and connection. Due to the nature of the competition, it is a must that the participants wear their own personal protective equipment.
As the event progressed, the National Math Wizard and National Quiz Show kept the ball rolling.
In 2017, the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Phils., Inc. - Council of Student Chapters (IIEE-CSC) conducted a Regional Student Conference, a nationwide event of quiz bee occurring simultaneously per region. All finalists competed on the third day of the convention.
For the 17th National Math Wizard, University of Batangas sustained its place for the third time as the national champion. The Brahman quizzers composed of Aira Camile Matibag, Francis Leonard Tinaja, Josainne Leah Dela Cruz, Jonathan Bathan and Earvin Jonas Aguado won over twenty-four other teams from various schools in the Philippines. Engr. Jermhel Solis and Engr. Mark Paolo Abag served as the teams’ mentors.
For the 31st National Quiz Show, Team USC of the University of San Carlos, composed of electrical engineering students Mikhael Lataza, Paul Sanico and Adrian Tan, were declared as national champion.
The 19th NSCON was headed by the IIEE-CSC. The IIEE-CSC is the main student body of electrical engineering students in the country and consists of 14,000 members from 126 affiliated schools coming from different regions of the country.
