STUDENTS from the Institute of Communication made it to the top ten finalists of CNN’s Reel Filipina Film Competition.

Reel Filipina is a digital shorts competition that is part of celebrating Women’s Month this March. It aims to promote gender equality by sharing the untold stories of women from all walks of life.

On March 25, CNN posted the list of finalists including the short-film entitled “Lang” directed by broadcasting students Carlo Buan and Patrick Garillo.

The short film “Lang” is a story about two privileged people learning their differences in one unlikely encounter.

Another entry to make the list is “Sabi-Sabi”  directed by communication student Gayle Balanta.

“Sabi-sabi” conveys a message that “women are more than the stereotypes”.

In an Interview with the LANCE, the director and writer of “Lang”, Carlo Buan expressed his gratitude towards the recognition.

“Super blessed at happy ako na nakapasok ‘yung film. Sobrang sarap sa feeling na makapag kuwento.”

Meanwhile, Serene Santiago, the editor of “Sabi-sabi” shared their struggle making the short film.

“We missed some of the sequences of our video but thankfully we had enough clips para ma-fill yung mga part na hindi namin na shoot.”

Santiago is also overwhelmed with the praise they are getting online.

“Sobrang saya kasi nagbunga ‘yung pinag hirapan namin. We are also grateful kasi nakarating sa maraming tao ‘yung message na pinaparating namin.”

Voting period is until Monday, March 30, at   www.cnnphilippines.com/womens-month
