Former the United States Vice President Al Gore’s award winning 2006 documentary, ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, which aims to highlight Earth’s battle against climate change, premiered its sequel in the Philippines last Monday night, August 28 at Trinoma Cinema 7.
An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power documents Climate Reality Founder and Chairman Al Gore and his fight to solve the crisis as he travels the world after witnessing our planet sorely being transformed by rising temperature, and intermittent weather.
Gore’s film encourages the citizens all over the world to take a stand in fighting climate change. It also depicts the historic Climate Change Conference in Paris in 2015 where some countries started transitioning to renewable energy.
The movie shows eye-opening scenarios most especially on parts where melting ice caps, floods, fires and political debates exist. The film also featured a part where Al Gore went to Tacloban City after Super typhoon “Yolanda” hit, killing more than 2,200 people, and destroying at least P22-billion worth of property.
Personalities such as Sen. Loren Legarda, Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Climate Change Commission Sec. Emmanuel de Guzman, and Deputy Head of Mission of the French Embassy in Philippines Laurent Le Godec were present at the premiere screening.
A panel discussion was also held after the documentary together with media practitioners like broadcast journalist Atom Araullo, Greenpeace Philippines executive director YebSaño, Caritas Philippines executive secretary Fr Edu Gariguez, Climate Reality Project Philippines country manager Rodne Galicha, and Climate Reality Leader John Leonard Chan.
The film showcases Climate Reality Leadership Corps (CRLP) training, where people from all walks of life come to work with Gore and other experts to learn key climate science and gain the skills to lead their respective communities in the fight against climate change.
Gore said that the focus of CRLP is on the ways that shall help them be advocates for renewable energy, climate justice, energy efficiency, sustainable agriculture, and forestry.
At the end of the premiere was a video message from Al Gore saying “We’re going to win this, we’re going to solve the climate crisis.” He also mentioned in the video that the Climate Reality Project will be receiving 100% of his proceeds from the film to train even more Climate Reality Leaders.
The documentary will be shown exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Trinoma and Glorietta 4) starting today, August 30, 2017.
