Dengue cases in Quezon City have plummeted by a remarkable 90 percent from February to April 2025, according to a report released by the city government on Thursday, Apr. 10.
The data from the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (CESD) of the Quezon City Health Department showed a sharp drop from 626 cases recorded between February 16 to 22, to just 64 cases from April 2 to 8.
Mayor Joy Belmonte welcomed the news, noting it as a significant milestone in the city’s fight against dengue. However, she emphasized that this progress should not lead to complacency.
“The changing climate especially the unexpected rains during summer means that water can easily accumulate in uncovered containers, creating breeding grounds for dengue-carrying mosquitoes,” she said.
As of the latest update, 123 barangays have already been cleared from outbreak status, while 19 barangays still remain within the epidemic threshold.
Health centers in affected areas continue to operate during weekends to ensure residents have access to medical assistance.
“While we have already scaled down our interventions in barangays under low alert, we must continue to keep our communities clean and vigilant especially when it comes to the health of our children,” Mayor Belmonte added.
To further support the anti-dengue efforts, all city health centers and public hospitals maintain designated “fever express lanes” to prioritize patients showing symptoms of dengue, and free dengue test kits are also being distributed across these facilities.
The local government continues to call on residents to regularly inspect their surroundings for potential mosquito breeding sites, such as stagnant water in old tires, clogged gutters, flower vases, and uncovered containers.
The City’s Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs) remain active in community surveillance and information campaigns, while school-based dengue awareness programs are being intensified to promote prevention among students and parents.
The Quezon City government’s aggressive anti-dengue initiatives which include fumigation drives, cleanup operations, and health education campaigns have played a key role in the significant drop in cases.
With continued public cooperation, authorities hope to maintain the downward trend and eventually eliminate dengue as a health threat in the city.
