“Research is the hallmark of a true scholar.”
Dozens of Colegio faculty members commence their scholarly work through the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) which cover 22 project-based research grants approved for academic year 2024-2025.
During the ceremonial signing on Sept. 30 at the Balagtas Hall, Prof. Danilo Villena, vice president for academic affairs (VPAA), challenged the Letran community to find answers to their inquiries through research, in time with the granting of “deregulated” status to Letran Manila by the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) and the emphasis of innovation in the Colegio’s Vision 2030.
“If you have comments, do research,” said the VPAA. Research is one of the four fundamental functions of faculty in higher educational institutions (HEIs), aside from instruction, extension and production.
Of the 22 employee research grants this academic year, five projects are interdepartmental with co-proponents coming from different academic departments. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) will implement five projects within the department; three each for the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT), Elementary and Junior High School (EJHS) department and Senior High School (SHS) department; two for the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA); and one for the College of Education (CoEd).
Asst. Prof. Louie Ian Mariano, director of research and publication department (RPD), reminded the faculty-researchers to ensure the completion of deliverables for a 10-month period. The binding stipulates the faculty-researchers must complete and submit their final outputs and liquidation to the RPD by June 2025.
The RPD funds will also cover the transportation of researchers who will need to visit the institutions under the One Letran consortium for data gathering.
The RPD director, together with Ms. Mary Jane Aguba, budget officer, and academic heads, witnessed the signing of MoUs.
