The Collegiate Press Corps bestowed Gia Maquilang with the NCAA Player of the Week nod for her brilliant performances in the opening week of the Season 99 Women’s Volleyball tournament earlier today.

Maquilang was vital in defending Letran’s throne atop NCAA Beach Volleyball this season where she bagged the Freshman of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Most Valuable Player awards.

With the momentum from that championship, the rookie from Bohol continued to dominate in their first two matches with victories over Arellano University and the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA.

Coach Oliver Almadro’s top gunner churned out a 17-point outing along with eight receptions in her debut game of the season versus the Arellano Lady Chiefs, 16-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-17, at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila on Wednesday.

The 20-year old outside hitter improved her play with 19 markers and 11 digs as her squad drubbed the Lady Altas, 25-21, 25-20, 30-28, at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan last Saturday.

The Letran Lady Knights’ record remains unblemished. Maquilang and her team will look to keep it that way in their matches against Emilio Aguinaldo College, Jose Rizal University, and College of Saint Benilde this coming week.
