Calvo, Quinto propel Letran past Mapua

The Letran Knights banked on Bong Quinto and JP Calvo as they trounced the Mapua Cardinals, 84-69, picking up their eighth win in the NCAA Season 94 at the Filoil Flying V Arena, Friday.

Calvo fired a career-high 26 points on 9-for-13 shooting while Quinto nabbed his third triple-double of the season with 11 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists.

After being down for almost the entire first quarter, the graduating duo took matters into their own hands and combined for 13 points in Letran's 26-point output in the second frame while limiting Mapua to just nine.

The Knights pulled away in the third quarter as they established a 19-point lead in the third canto.

Christian Fajarito contributed 10 markers and grabbed five rebounds for Letran while Larry Muyang finished with nine points and nine boards. 

“Good win for us coming from a bad game against San Beda, at least we bounced back, pero 'di pa rin kami pwedeng mag relax," said Letran head coach Jeff Napa.

"We need to lock down the number three spot kaya kailangan trabahuhin pa rin namin 'yung mga remaining games namin para at least we secure yang spot na yan," he added, stating the the importance of staying in the third spot.

The Knights upped their record to 8-4, and currently rests at the third seed behind league leading Lyceum and San Beda.

Arvin Gamboa and Noah Lugo led the way for the Cardinals, scoring 17 and 13, respectively.

The Knights will face the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals on September 25, Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
