Things started a bit shaky for Jeff Napa and the Letran Knights; their opening loss against the Perpetual Altas was a testament to that. Good thing for Napa though, the team’s veterans stepped-up to the challenge and restored order in the following game.

“‘Yung leaders namin, kinausap ko ‘yung dalawang leaders [Quinto and Calvo], naiintindihan nila, pinakita ko sa kanila ‘yung bigger picture. That’s why ‘yung mga teammates nila, sumunod lang sa kanila,” Napa said.

The conversation indeed paid dividends for Napa, as the duo of Bong Quinto and JP Calvo combined for 33 points in Letran’s 83-76 victory against the San Sebastian Golden Stags, picking up their first win in the NCAA Season 94 seniors’ basketball tournament.

Calvo shot 6-of-11 from the field while Quinto drained 4-of-7 on a combined 56 percent, showing the pair’s maturity in their shot-making. “Last time medyo negative ‘yung dalawang leader ko eh. Ngayon, positive naman,” Napa said, noting his skippers’ improvement from the last game.

“So ibig sabihin maganda ‘yung result talaga na in-address namin nung practice so ganun pa ‘rin, hindi kami pwedeng maging complacent kailangan namin maging consistent para hindi na maulit ‘yung nangyari nung first game,” he explained. With Calvo and Quinto finally seizing their leadership roles, expect the Knights to go all-out in their next games.
