Massive Fire Hit Manila Central Post Office in Intramuros, Manila

A fire hit the Manila Central Office late Sunday night, reaching the first alarm at 11:41 p.m., Task Force Delta at 5:25 a.m., and the general alarm was raised at 5:45 a.m.

According to the Postmaster General Chief of Staff Mark Laurente, the fire broke out from the south side of the basement, where the storage room for the Mega Manila Office and maintenance room are located.

A volunteer identified as Toto Roslin, 43 years old, was reported injured with minor wounds on his right hand. No casualties have so far been confirmed. 

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan and Vice Mayor Yul Servo-Nieto visited the post office. 

The management of the Manila Post Office has yet to confirm if the fire destroyed the parcels and letters inside the building.

Manila Fire Department Fire Superintendent Christine Doctor-Cula states the fire is "now under control" as of 7:22 a.m., further confirmed by the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP).
