Colegio de San Juan de Letran escaped Lyceum of the Philippines University, 80-77, to stay undefeated in the NCAA Season 97 Seniors Basketball Tournament on Sunday afternoon at La Salle Green Hills’ St. Benilde Gym, Mandaluyong City.

With 24 seconds left on the clock, Fran Yu hit his biggest shot of the season yet with an off-the-glass mid-range to bring the Knights’ lead to three, 80-77.

On the next possession, John Bravo was left wide open at the top-of-the-key, but was unable to hit it.

With no choice but to foul, the Pirates fouled Jeo Ambohot. The Knights’ team captain missed both free throws, giving Lyceum one last chance to steal the victory.

Unfortunately for Lyceum, they were unable to make a shot as the Knights secured the victory.

Rhenz Abando led the scoring for the Knights with 14 points and five rebounds. Jeo Ambohot finished with a double-double of 13 points, 13 rebounds, and five blocks.

Reigning finals MVP Fran Yu had an all-around performance with nine markers, five boards and seven dimes.

John Barba led Lyceum with a game-high 20 points.

Letran was trailed by double digits in the first half, but was able to turn things around early in the third quarter as they rallied for a 13-0 run to get back into the ball game.
